Q: When is the best time of year to visit St. Croix?
A: It's always a good time! In high season, from mid-December to mid-April,
the weather is cooler, with daily high temperatures in the low 80's. There
are more people on the island, and there is more activity. Prices are
higher for airfare, lodging and car rentals. The rest of the year is low
season, when prices are lower, organized activities are fewer, and daily
high temperatures are in the mid to high 80's. May and November are historically
slightly rainier than other months, but it can rain or not rain in any
month. The peak of hurricane season is September through mid-October,
when there are the fewest visitors, and some businesses close. However,
the chances of a hurricane affecting your vacation week are very small,
and this is a nice time to have the beaches and restaurants to yourself.
Q: Is there any crime on St. Croix?
A: There is some crime, mostly opportunistic. Don't leave your valuables
in a car or unattended on a beach, and visit remote beaches and remote
areas only as a group, and you should be fine. Avoid walking alone at
night and we recommend being in by 10:00 p.m.
Q: Why is there a fence between the beach and the condo?
A: The condo is virtually wall to wall windows to maximize your view and
the sound of the sea. The fence, and the dogs that live on the condo premises,
are there for security. Just like in ANY area where there are tourists,
criminals look for easy targets. Due to the excellent security at these
condos, there is no crime here and you can feel confident about leaving
your condo open to enjoy nature without fear that someone could scale
the wall and enter the unit.
Q: How do you pronounce St. Croix?
A: It's pronounced as the anglicized, "Saint Croy"
Q: How big is St. Croix?
A: St. Croix is 28 miles east-west, and 7 miles north-south, covering
83 square miles. It is the largest of all the Virgin Islands, with more
than twice the land area of St. Thomas.
Q: Is the condo in a quiet or busy neighborhood?
A: It is in a quiet neighborhood.
Q: Should I rent a car?
A: Yes. Taxi fare will add up quickly (it's about $25
from Frederiksted to Christiansted), and there are so many things to see
and do in other areas of the island. Parking is gated and secure at the
condo. We highly recommend Judi of Croix for car rentals. Check out their website for lots of great information about driving in St. Croix!
Q: Is it tricky to drive on the left?
A: It can be tricky at first. After a little practice, you'll get the
hang of it.
Q: Can I drink the water at the condo?
A: Yes. Water is collected in a cistern, and it is filtered and potable.
Q: Are the electrical outlets the same as in the US?
A: Yes, they are 110 Volts, 60 Hz.
Q: Is there Internet access at the condo?
A: Yes, there is unlimited wireless Internet access, so bring your
laptop with wireless card for access.
A: Are there supermarkets, restaurants and stores nearby?
Q: Yes. There is a Kmart about 10 minutes from the condo, and a Plaza
Extra supermarket just a bit further. In Frederiksted, 5 minutes from
the condo, there is an Eagle Mini Mart convenience store as well.
Q: Is there a kitchen?
A: Yes, there is a full kitchen, including microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker,
toaster, etc. You may shop for your own groceries and do your own cooking.
Q: Do I need a passport?
A: No, for the new regulations of 2006/2007, US citizens traveling from
the US to the US Virgin Islands/Puerto Rico and back to the US only need
a government-issued photo ID and proof of US citizenship. But bring your
passport if you have one, because you will get through airport security
and immigration faster and easier.
